Turn 5 Senate Phase, Consular Votes

Turn 5 Senate Phase, Censor Nomination and Votes due 4/27, Monday

Senate Phase

Senator Furius stands up...

I speak for Senator Papirius, he has served outstanding in Caelestis Genus, and I have complete faith in him to serve as one of the new Consuls. I see no order of voting, but I will start the voting by casting all Caelestis Genus votes in Favor of the proposal.

Terentius addresses the Senate.

"Conscript Fathers!

"We have two plausible courses of action here. We can attack 1st Illyrian or we can attack 1st Macedonian and Philip.

"In favor of the former, we need only 16 CF to attain a 95.83% chance of victory. That would be 15 of our present 18 regular legions and any 1 Mil leader. Given victory, we would gain 10T, another veteran legion for use against Macedonia, and dispell the effects of Drought.

"In favor of the latter, 29 CF gets us our best odds of 63.89% so again a skilled MIL leader isn't essential. Since we have 28 CF of troops, we need only raise 5 fleets. Given victory, we take out the elephant in the room before it can double. If we had either Flamninus or Macedonicus to lead the troops, we could increase our odds to 88.43%.

"So will Fortuna smile upon us and deliver us Flamninus or Macedonicus before the Macedonians rally another war? Will she grant us a vctory over Macedonia without them?

"Senators! Your reasoned opinions, please."

Pontiff Quinctius addresses the Senate,

Fellow Senators, Senator Terentius has one of the most mathematical minds as any of the Roman Engineers here, but we must not forget it's the Gods who decide the Tide of Fates in Battle. Having superior numbers, tactics, and equipment IS necessary in going to War, BUT we must not forget its our Faith in Mars who will help us the most. Both Senators Cornelius and Papirius are men of Faith, as are all the rest of you, and I have not seen any bad omens in these men which Mars would withhold his Hand in the coming Battles. I see the Gods blessings on these two Senators and many victories will come to these men. I have complete Faith in either one of these Senators to lead our Legions against the Illyrians or the Macedonians.

The Oracles have revealed that only six more draws of fortune remain in the time of the Early Republic.

Finlandia votes NAY on Papirius/Cornelius.

Suggest we nominate two MIL=1 or 2 leaders. Save Cornelius for later. Finlandia is in favor of attacking Illyrian war this year but will not oppose attacking the Macedonians this year either. Our augurs state unequivocally that a leader destined to take out the Macedonian threat will arise soon enough.

CORONUS votes against whatever is proposed unless it is properly phrased as a proposal to the Senate.

Having said that, with only 6 cards left in Deck 1, we have to attack 1st Macedonian & Philip. We suggest that we raise all available legions and hold as many veterans in reserve as we can.

Final vote:

Arborophilia 10 votes in favor

Coronus: 4 votes against

100% Loyalus abstains

Caelestis Genus: 12 votes in favor

Finlandia: 10 votes agains

The final tally is 22 votes in favor, 14 votes against and 11 votes abstaining. The motion passes.

Cornelius takes the position of Field Consul, while Papirius becomes Rome Consul.

Julius rises:

I recommend putting the illyrians down unless the Macedonians appear....they should then be our first priority....however, I am interested in hearing what the new Roman Consul has to say....and I will vote yay or nay on the merits of their proposal.

Terentius addresses the Senate.

"Conscript Fathers!

"The Rome Consul has been imbibing at the altar of Bacchus again! With the recent revelation that there are but 6 cards left in the Deck, we must attack 1st Macedonian NOW!  This year we need but 29 CF to get our best odds of 63.89%.  Next year, even with Flamininus or Macedonicus we will need 41 CF to get our best odds of 88.43% since 2nd Macedonian will surely reinforce 1st Macedonian.  So even with a 5-Mil leader, an extra veteran from the Illyrican campaign (did anyone notice that both Macedonians attack Illyricum, which would be established as a Province once 1st Illyrian is vanquished?  Is the RC volunteering for that Governorship?) and full recruitment we're 41-(31+5) = 5 short of optimal odds, so that's 72.22%.

"CORONUS proposes we raise 2 legions and 5 fleets and attack 1st Macedonian either sending a 1-MIL FC and hold a vet in reserve or sending a 3-Mil FC and hold 2 vets in reserve."
