Senate Phase

Quinctius Flaminius running in...

"My apologies fellow Senators for my late arrival. Having gone to Albingaunum in the Liguria region to search for evidence of Senator Aurelius wrong dealings there over the Farmer's Tax we have there. What I found was interesting, the Farmer's Tax was being done correctly by what we had set up as Law for the tax, but I found a road tax being charged to those people who use the roads around Albingaunum, and this older tax which was set after we defeated the Carthaginians in the 2nd Punic War. This tax was used for a short time to help rebuild the region after Hannibal had striped & burned this region. Once rebuilt, the tax was to be discontinued. So I searched to see who has benefited by this extra income from these two "extra" taxes, and though the list of names is long, Senator Aurelius's Family has overseen the collection of these taxes and benefited from it for many years now. The road tax has been used many times to help build new roads, maintain them, or keep them safe from barbarians in hostile regions, but I clearly see abuse in the Liguria region of unnecessary taxes being used, and that Senator Aurelius Family have benefited from them. So I do agree with Consul Aemlius that there is enough evidence here for a minor prosecution of Senator Aurelius. I therefore urge my fellow Senators to vote yes in this charge."
