Turn 2 Senate Phase, Second Prosecution
Prosecution due 1/11, Friday
Senate Phase
Calpurnius rises again. “Thank you fellow senators for supporting me in my attempt to stamp out any and all abuse of the great name of Rome. We have one more duty before we move on to more pressing matters and that is to pass similar judgement on Valerius who is guilty of the same crime as Fabius. I trust you will continue to uphold the honour of this great nation and find him guilty as well. Please vote as before: Coronus, Finlandia, Arborophilia, Caelestis Genus, 100%Loyalus” Calpurnius sits.
Claudius of CORONUS rises.
Senators!
And what crime would that be that craven Calpurnius accuses the senior leader of CORONUS to have committed? It could not be the misuse of Republic treasury funds to adorn, not his horse, but his horse's mistress's mistress with jewels as did convicted, yet esteemed, Cunctator. Valerius is not a man of war, so cannot have committed such an offence as the prosecution has implied. What is the specific charge against Valerius?
Aelius rises:
Thank you noble, Calpurnius, for entrusting me to act as your prosecutor. It is with great dismay that I present the charges and evidence to Valerius' crimes. I had not thought it possible, but the evidence is unassailable and when I brought this evidence forth to Calpurnius, the Censor thought it best to proceed with a prosecution.
Valerius is not being prosecuted for his crimes with the Ship Building Concession. Although he made more talents than any other senator has made in ten years we chose not to investigate that further. Instead, Valerius failed to fulfill his duties as Censor. Specifically, it has come to our attention that Valerius was seen nobbing a clerk in his office. Clearly there is nothing wrong with that but Valerius had the temerity to send the bill for "services rendered" to the Republic which is quite galling! That Valerius has such a high esteem of his nobbing abilities to send a bill requires some censure.
Hopefully, Valerius will keep his nobbing to his wife, mistresses, and assorted slaves in the future and will refrain from any bills or speeches of self-aggrandizement of his nobbing abilities.
Vote Results:
Coronus: 8 votes to absolve
Finlandia: 14 votes to convict
Arborophilia: 7 votes to convict
Caelestis Genus: 8 votes to convict
100%Loyalus: 8 votes to convict
Motion passes 37 to 8.
Valerius loses 5 influence, 5 popularity, the Ship Building concession, and his Prior Consul marker. Aelius gains 3 influence and the Prior Consul marker.
Furius stands:
My fellow Senators, we now have some State issues to contend to, and decide who will be the Governors for Sicily and Corsica-Sardinia. As we all know, Cunctator's War Campaign against Carthage focused on securing Sicily before we took the War to Carthage's own shores. He knows the land there, he has had to defend the Cities, and knows how to attack the Cities if there is any problems. So the only real choice for Governorship for Sicily would be Cunctator! I trust his abilities to be able to keep it secured from pirates, and any possible landings from Carthage in the coming War against them. Also to develop the land into a more Civilized Island where it can reflect what it can be to the rest of the World what a Glorious Republic Rome is. Now the real question I had was who will be the Governor of Corsica-Sardinia? After hearing the Prosecution and Defense of Valerius, I had to vote for, but I believe Valerius's experience as the First Rome Consul, and his passion for Rome would make the next logical choice for Governorship of Corsica-Sardinia. I believe in his ability, I'm looking past this last Prosecution, and I feel he can rebuild Corsica-Sardinia into a reflection of Roman Culture and Engineering. These two Senators will be our representation to show the rest of the World that Rome is not a conquering Barbarian, but we Romans bring in Order, Prosperity, Civilization, Security, and a better life to the citizens. I support these Senators and I urge the rest of you to support my Appointees to these Governorships. In them I have complete faith that they will not fail Rome.
Sulpicius arises:
"Conscript Fathers!
"Nay! Cunctator of FINLANDIA should go to Sardinia-Corsica where his recently acquired naval skills will allow him to shift troops between the islands with ease. Better that Cunctator's Master of Horse should govern Sicily since his mount did much to fertilize the the grain fields there, and if rumors be true, so did he to the female population."
Furius takes the stand:
Sulpicius, how can you propose to send Julius to Govern Sicily, and then send out Flaminius to fight against Carthage? Arborophilia would then be not represented in Rome. Instead this sounds like Valerius not wanting to leave the comfort of his home to do his duty. We all have a duty to do, and for me if it means that I face the Illyrians with only three Legions to give Flaminius the better edge against Carthage, then so be it. Some of us are cut out to lead troops, and others are cut out to lead citizens. Valerius was the First Rome Consul, he was elected by the people to help shape what Rome is now, and now he is being asked to take that experience to help shape Sardinia-Corsica into a new Province of Rome. What better honor is it to be part of expanding our Influence into new Provinces, bringing Civilization to the uncivilized, and to develop the new Province to bring in more taxes for Rome? Three terms is all we are asking from you Valerius and you can be back to the comfort of your home in no time. I see no reason to alter my first proposal and so if there is no other objections, I ask for us to vote on these Governorships in this order... Finlandia, Arborophilia, Coronus, 100%Loyalus, and Caelestis Genus.
Furius takes his seat.
The proposal before the Senate is for Fabius to be governor of Sicily and Valerius to be governor of Corsica-Sardinia. Voting order is Finlandia, Arborophilia, Coronus, 100%Loyalus, Caelestis Genus.
