End of Game Statements
Bill Scharf (Zoons): Thanks for running the game, always fun! And congratulations to Christopher on his win. This game had a number of firsts for me, I had my longest string of five areas, and multiple strings where I was a threat to win. I was lord rust by the way. I also ran out of minions, another first for me! Unfortunately, my opponents always had enough cards to stop me, but hey a few cards different and it would have been another in my win column. Good game everybody!
Christopher Hunt (Blue Meanies):
Thanks to Chris for running the game so well. Started very badly
with little income and no prospect of building anything. Thought
Zoons would walk it with their wide control of areas. Love
playing the game still think with above 3 players the game ends with
the cards running out. Think there should be more victory
conditions but this would break the theme of the game criminal gams
controlling the city. Prefer the next game in the series Nanty
Narking (Immersed deeply in the world of Dickens’s and Doyle’s
literature, Nanty Narking moves you into the realities of the myths and
legends of the Victorian era. The events in the game are tied to real
and fictional characters and places in Victorian London The same London
which inspired so many stories…
The action takes place on the city map, with players placing their
agents and buildings on the board through card play. Every card is
unique. The cards bring the game to life as they include most of the
famous characters who have appeared in the various books. The rules are
relatively simple: Play a card and do what it says. Most cards have
more than one action on them, and you can choose to do some or all of
these actions. Some cards also allow you to play a second card, so you
can chain actions. At the beginning of the game, each player draws a
secret personality with specific victory conditions, which means that
you can never be sure what the other players need to do in order to
win. You need to fulfill your goal while also trying to prevent others
from winning!) As you can see the same game but there are some tweaks.
Each player has a special character...
Kevin Wilson (PIKES):
Well I certainly didn’t see that coming. I think that’s the first time
Chrysophase has won a game. I think it’s much harder for that character
to win with 4 players. I guess I should have realized it would be
easier with 3. I did keep an eye on the cash balances but should have
been watching houses too! Lesson learned.
I had convinced myself both of the others were one of the area control
Lords so I focused on keeping them from 5 areas. That thought also kind
of kept Chrysophase out of mind so contributed to my actions. I was
Commander Vimes so just tried to run the cards out, which is harder
with 3 players than 4. I had some good ones early that ate up a few
cards but it slowed later.
I have a copy of Nanty Narking. It’s nicer eye candy than Discworld but
essentially plays the same. It has some slightly different cards but
has “classic” cards that copy Discworld. The plastic “minions”
and other pieces are very pretty. I don’t paint but I guess you
could. It’s obviously less tongue-in-cheek than Discworld but is
basically the same game.
