Turn 7 Senate Phase, Pontifex Maximus Elections due 11/25, Wednesday

Senate Phase

Terentius addresses the Senate.

"Conscript Fathers!

"I would like to poll the mood of the Senate as to which of the two war strategies to pursue this year and reasons if any, whether Macedonicus or Flamininus should be RC if we attack 2nd Macedonian."

Quinctius Flaminius stands.

"I have stood in the background far too long. As the High Priest to Mars, I yearned for the chance to lead the Legions, but duty called for me to stay here. Now that I've freely given up the office, I would like to take on those Macedonians in the coming year. Weather you give me enough Legions to win the War or overwhelming Legions to crush the Macedonians matters not to me. I am ready no matter how we decide."

Cunctator rises:

I am a man of action. In this case, I beleive the best action would be to attack the Macedonian War with all strength before it becomes unwieldy. The only downside is a loss of talents to our treasury next year from the other wars.

Julius rises:

I suggest attacking the largest enemy force with the leader most able to win victory, Macedonius against Macedonia for example. For if we defeat it quickly, we can turn to lesser matters, if we do not defeat it, then we are undone - our troubles will multiply like locust on the wind - and will destroy us.

Quinctius Flaminius shouts back...

"Macedonius is a good choice, but I have been study those Greeks for years now, and I believe I should be that one to lead the Legions. Its that very reason why I'm the better choice because I have little influence and not a threat to the other Factions."

Terentius addresses the Senate.

"Conscript Fathers!

"Maccus Computus, having just returned from an intelligence gathering mission in Macedonia, reminds me that we have a third viable option, that is, attacking both 2nd Macedonian and the Sicililian Slave Revolt. Governor Furius in Sicily reports that he has 7 provincial legions and 5 provincial fleets available to defend against the revolt and only needs a few legions to butress up his strength.

"So, if we send Macedonicus of FINLANDIA or Flamininus of CAELESTIS GENUS, not to be confused with Flaminius of ARBORIPHILIA as the Senate clerk appears to have done, with 16 CF of troops and 5 fleets we can guarantee victory over those shifty spiritual sons of Ulysses. Furius (Mil 3) needs but 8 CF more to achieve maximum odds of 88.43%.

"I believe this is our best approach. It eliminates the Macedonians before they can attack the province of Illyricum or get reinforced by the 3rd and 4th Macedonian and it will likely suppress the Slave revolt and the ravages of drought it brings.

"I ask the Seante Clerk to research whether Furius can defeat the revolt (or would merely inactivate it), or whether a leader from Rome has to be sent to finish it. More important is the availablilty of the provincial troops to augment the force sent.

"Actually, it may not be that important in that a Mil-2 leader, 1 fleet, and the remaining 16 CF of troops will do the trick also."

Finlandia strongly supports this strategy. We suggest Flamininus to attack the Macedonians.

Terentius addresses the Senate:

"In order to attack both Macedonia and to quash that slave revolt, I propose:

That T. Quinctius Flamininus of CAELESTIS GENUS and Aelius of FINLANDIA be the new Consuls.
