Turn 6 Senate Phase, Censor Election and Prosecution

Turn 6 Senate Phase, Governor Nominations due 9/2, Wednesday

Senate Phase

Fulvius stands:

Our previous Rome Consul performed so admirably that I believe he would make a fine Censor this year. I nominate Papirius as Censor. Voting order:

Caelestis Genus, Arborophilia, 100%Loyalus, CORONUS, Finlandia

Final votes:

Caelestis Genus: 7 votes in favor

Arborophilia: 11 votes in favor

100%Loyalus: 12 votes in favor

CORONUS: 6 votes in favor

Finlandia: 16 votes in favor

Papirius gains the Censorship with 52 votes to 0.

Senator Papirius stands.

"This is a Republic and we are Governed by rules & laws. This is what sets us above all the rest of the Civilizations and what makes us stronger. The question arises is when one of us bends the law for personal gain, do we look the other direction? That is the issue at hand, and not in any way a personal grievance against Senator Aelius. The fact remains no matter how well Senator Aelius did in his term of Governorship, there is no excuse for taking Graff from the taxes, but that is not for me to decide. The Prosecutor for this case will be Senator Claudius of the Coronus Faction, it will be his job to build the case, and for us to vote on it. This will only be a Minor Prosecution on Senator Aelius of the Finlandia Faction."

Claudius addresses the Senate.

"Conscript Fathers!

"It has come to the attention of the Senate Un-Roman Activities Committee that Aelius, whilst Governor of Nearer Spain, did allegedly unlawlyly influence the letting of government contracts involving mining claims. This influence allegedly allowed the contract to not go to the higherst bidder but to a sham company controlled by some of

Aelius's closest toadies and creditors. This allegedly deprived the State of considerable income it would rightly have made. His motive for this betrayal of the State's trust was allegedly to relieve himself of the huge debts he's racked up in the past few years at the Circus Maximus. There are also rumors of un-Romanlke behavior in the House of Marcus Leicus.

"A thorough investigation by the committee have shown the charges to be baseless. The alleged high bidder, for instance, did not submit it's bid until two months after bidding was closed and a nunindae after a sustantial find of rich ore was discovered. A classic case of attempted legal claim-jumping. As for the un-Roman like behavior, it

is a well known, but unwritten, rule of the Senate that 'What goes on in the House of Marcus Leicus, remains in the House of Marcus Leicus'.

"The Senate pages are distributing the full list of charges with supporting evidence, or rather, the lack thereof, to the faction leaders. I recommend a verdict of 'Absolvo'.

"Speaking of the Circus Maximus, all of CORONUS will be attending this year's tournament in Lancasterum to support our drivers, Tommus Slickus

and Won Hung Lo, the famous Chinese charioteer. Accordingly, we will announce our vote now, ABSOLVO, rather than delay the wheels of justice.

"It is up to Censor Papirius to determine the voting order."

Aelius rises in his defense.

"I humbly await the votes of my colleagues in the Senate. The bottom line, conscript senators, is that under my governorship, the province prospered, Rome prospered, and the our enemies were held at bay. That I paid myself a small stipend to cover expenses incurred to ensure prosperity is only right and proper. I am, and always have been, a tool of Rome."

Final votes:

Coronus: 6 votes ABSOLVO

100%Loyalus: 12 votes ABSOLVO

Caelestis Genus: 7 votes ABSOLVO

ARBOROPHILIA: 11 votes CONDEMNO

FINLANDIA: 16 votes ABSOLVO

Aelius is aquitted, 11 votes to 41

Papirius declines to name a second prosecution.
