As Bill and Dave had the same number of turns, they both win! Congratulations to them both on a close game!
Bill Scharf: Good game everyone! Lots of fun as usual.
I’ve picked up the pattern of card elimination. The attack cards get
eliminated pretty much every game, which tends to shorten game length a
bit. Strategies that require a bit of assembly to work are thus
discouraged. Once the bad cards are gone there’s often a confusing card
or two that can be eliminated. Leaving cards that are useful, and cards
that are less useful. Either are fine by my standards, I’ll buy the
ones that are useful, and if someone wants to spend their money on
cards that are less effective that’s fine by me, less competition for
the best cards. If you’re in the lead pointwise keep buying the good
cards, you’ll run them out and win, point leadership is not secret
information. If you’re not in the lead you have to buy less effective
cards or you’ll propel the leaders to a win by running the good cards
out while you’re behind. One set that would probably break this pattern
is dark ages. Too many loser cards to eliminate all the bad stuff, you
would have to work with cards that are sub-par at best, and it’s a set
people are less familiar with, so fewer established paths to victory.
Good game everybody! Thanks, Chris, for running it.
Chris Geggus:
Well done to the winners. As usual I changed my mind a hundred times
and never stuck with one simple plan. I'm learning all the time with
the many new cards that I have never seen before, but maybe one day
I'll be more savvy. Thanks to all plus Chris H.
Chris Hibbert:
I saw the Inventor and Quarry piles emptying quickly, and all the
people who had actions to gain a cheap card, and panicked. I started
buying any VP cards I could well before my hand matured, so I never had
any golds or Artisans to remodel into Provinces, and the game went on
for quite a while longer than I expected.
Even though I was trashing at every opportunity, I did manage to get to 20 cards in my deck, so my Gardens were worth something.
Congratulations to Bill and Dave for remaining calm and playing out their hands. Well done.
Thanks to Chris H. for running another smooth game.
Dave Hooton:
I was late to start accumulating VP cards, but a worth-while
investventment in the Piazza project, I was able to buy or gain two VP
cards almost every turn thereafter.
Christopher Hunt:
Congratulations to Bill and Dave on their win. Thanks to
Chris for running the game. Think individual turns better
as can see eaiser when provinces are being brought. New
cards to me: error in buying quarry as low value after the swtich to
victory point buying. Was going for extra cards and
gardens. Underestimated the value of remodel.
Kevin Wilson:
Again I waited to long to try for VP and when the tide turned that way,
missed a couple of times without enough coin. That one seems to go fast.
Congrats to Bill & Dave on nice, quick? wins; thanks for the game to the rest and to Chris for running it as always.
