Congratulations to Dave Hooton on his very close victory!
End of Game Statements
Chris Geggus:
One lousy point after the biggest screw job ever. If you guys had group
arranged to hammer me on that last turn you could not have done better.
I had the wood for my fences and the stone for my house, so options to
get both done. Dave firstly took first player and made me last on turn
14. I then had the choice of trying for upgrade with fences on the
final turn or doing the upgrade on turn 13 and the fences on turn 14.
Since 2 players could/should upgrade before me I ran the risk of
failing both, so I chose to upgrade on turn 13 and hope for fences on
last turn (looked probable). For some inexplicable reason Christopher
built fences before me on turn 14 and then later on he upgraded! Why
not do both together except to screw me over even at the cost of an
action for himself? Can I at least build stables? No, Dave had cleared
that as well. Then I look at gaining further VPs with the Joinery,
until someone grabbed Major/Minor (although I could have tried that
earlier in the turn). Surrounded by wood and nothing to do with it.
Just amazed I got that close at the end. Still enjoyed it once I had
stopped pulling my hair out and kicking the cat. Thank you to Chris
again
Bill Scharf:
Congratulations to Dave on his win, and to Chris for running it.
Impressively close everybody, four of us in a two point spread and no
one far behind. Scarily good, it almost seems like we know what we’re
doing. What’s really amazing is I correctly calculated the number of
points I’d end up with at game end, I didn’t overlook anything! Worst
part of my game, a wonky food engine, didn’t get supporting occupations
or minor improvements. Best part of my game, the taster, never used him
before (he gets snatched up pretty quickly) but he made a big
difference in my game.
Andy York: Couldn't have been much closer across the board. Well played everyone! And, kudos to Dave for edging the rest of us. And, as always, appreciate the fine GMing by Chris.
Dave Hooton: This was the first game in a long time were I didn't have five family members at the start Round 14. I was slower to develop than other players and never did get to sow crops, but it all came together on the last round.
Christopher Hunt:
I'm not good at this game. Unable to fence areas and or
buld a fireplace. Congratuations to Dave on his
win. Sorry Chris I did what I did because I had wood and
thought you would take fences. Thanks to Chris H for running the game.
