End of Game Statements
Chris Geggus (GEGS): Well
played Bill. A brave decision to keep the Germans, although you were
never going to get GB or France when you didn't draw them, so perhaps a
safe nation in Northern Europe made sense. Also led everyone else to
expect something earlier than Germany and so little removal of your
pieces from the board. Very impressed. I'll forget about my disasters
and just look forward to the next game. Thanks to Chris.
Kevin Wilson (RMHS):
Well, at least coming up 1VP short to Geggs is moot now. Congrats to
Bill. As Geggs said, a brave choice to keep the Germans. I would have
been happy with anything except the Dutch (thanks Chris) but should
have known, keeping the Romans in EIII was a bad choice even if I got
off to a strong, early (too early) position. As always loads of
fun. Still one of may favorites.
Thanks to Chris for running the game. These go pretty quick with the email process so I’m always ready to go again.
Andy York (Republic of Texas):
Early on I expected to not be in the running for winning and shooting
for upper middle of the pack. However, that became a pipe dream in the
previous Epoch. The question became would i keep out of the basement -
not even a close chance.
Congrats to Bill on his solid win and thanks to Chris for running the game.
Christopher Hunt (The Greenies):
Congratulations to Bill on his fine win. Many thanks to Chris for
running the game so well. Congratulations to Bill on his fine win
with the lowest number of army units. I think Bill won by keeping
the Aztecs. A brave decision. Even had he be given the USA in the
last era, on the actual results he would still have won, but still
brave to keep Germany. As the Manchus the only areas I could hit were
in China but conquering China would have lead to a much lower VP toll
or me. As to keeping the Romans, I remember a previous game where
we played 3 turns before the map was changed. In Epoch 4 nations had to
play not knowing how much the Romans had been hurt by previous nations.
The result in one game I remember is that the Romans survived in many
areas. I am much appreciative of the present system whereby you can see
the situation when your nation appears. Went for a policy of most
points and taking out strongpoints rather than laying down strongholds.
This resulted in having ribbon empires and virtually nothing on the
board at the end of a turn except for the Greeks in Crete.
