Congratulations to Bill on his win!

End of Game Statements

Chris Geggus (Hamburg):  An absolute crushing. Well done Bill. It was actually painful having to play through the last couple of turns. If it was a boxing match the referee would have stepped in well before the end. I enjoyed it, but couldn't seem to get any rhythm going in my play this time around. Only thing I really thought unusual was the London card play on turn 7 being a little generous towards Venice. I can only presume it was to avoid big misery increases?

Well done all for another fair and fine tussle and thanks to Chris for his usual excellence.

Bill Scharf (Venice):  A very unusual game, mostly because I won this one. Most unusual. I still believe Venice has a great starting location and just ran with it. Also unusual, after my card draws I saw a lot of terrible cards in my hand…. terrible if they are played on you rather than by you that is. Usually I only see them during the latter usage, but not this game!

I played very aggressively against Barcelona…. mainly because Dave is very very good at this game and he has to be slowed down for anyone else to have a chance, and I also played somewhat aggressively against Hamburg, mostly because Chris seems a bit disappointed when I don’t.  Michael and Bob I didn’t interact much with at all, board position and their combative neighbors saw to that. Martin was doing well as Genoa but his evisceration by Hamburg during War! took him out of the running. Thanks to Chris H. for running this game, which I enjoy a lot, and thanks to everyone for playing, I had a great time gaming with you.

Dave Hooton (Barcelona):  Congratulations to Bill on his victory. I can find no flaw in his fine play.

The end-game revolved around control of the Spice and Silk spaces. In this decisive conflict, Bill was aided by dice apparently swiped from Chris G. (along with the traditional earmarked-for-me Black Death card). During these lopsided expansion phases, I lost 43 tokens to Bill while he lost only 5 to me.

As always, thanks to Chris H. for running the game.
