Lakefront Resorts win. Congratulations to Chris Geggus on his victory!

End of Game Statements

Dave Hooton (Utopia):  Congratulations to Chris G. on his clear victory. It's tough to overcome such a large M€ income.

Chris Geggus (Lakefront Resorts):  Phew - hard work as usual with these cowboys. I was fortunate to get an early run of cash production which just kept growing. With production more than twice the next guy, I had better be doing darn well! This map is a little different and I found it awkward for obvious expansion. Everything was scattered, so no area really drew visitors. Just pinching that 5 VPs at the end with the greenery helped allay any concerns I had about card scores from other players. And I have now learnt to spot impending game end at long last. Lastly, and most importantly, thanks to Chris as ever for his excellent GM'ing.

Bill Scharf (Robinson Industries):  Thanks for running the game, and congrats to Chris on winning it. I missed my first goal (the generalist) in the first turn...and I’d sacrificed a few things to make that happen asap. In short, my “engine” never got started and I realized I was in a losing effort. Granted, that’s usually the case but it doesn’t happen so quickly! Great fun as always.

Kevin Wilson (UNMI):  First, the positive stuff.  Congrats to Chris on a nice, close win.  With that much cash how could you not?  And thank you Chris for running such a smooth game, as usual.

On the other hand, why do I try?  If you come in near the tail end once in a while or are in the hunt and just miss you can figure you just didn’t get the cards or missed an opportunity or the other guy caught a good break.  But, if you’re consistently near the end then you’re doing something wrong or at least not near as well as others.  That’s where I find myself.  Without going back and looking I think I’ve been in the hunt once or twice but usually bringing up the tail or, at best, like this time, just inching out of last place.  Obviously I’m not optimizing my choices.  I can run the scenarios in games like Terra Mystica or Power Grid or even Dune and Diplomacy but Terraforming Mars (and Puerto Rico) I just never seem to get close.

On the gripping hand, I like the game so much I have to keep trying.  Perhaps the light will go off and I’ll clean everyone’s clocks in a game.  Who knows?  We’ll see.

Chris Geggus (Lakefront Resorts):  Interesting what you say there Kevin. There must be something in the way we are wired. I find Terraforming Mars and Puerto Rico very intuitive and natural for my style of play, but I really struggle with Power Grid and Terra Mystica. I think my results in SOB bear that out pretty obviously. Horses for courses?
