End of Game Statements
Dave Hooton: Congratulations to Christopher on his win. Playing the Snow Bunting early really helped him. Thanks to Chris for running the game.
Christopher Hunt: First of all thanks to Chris for keeping me on track. Wow 39 tucked cards. Best bonus. Last or near last in everything else. I keep on forgetting how short this game is. Started with a number of cards giving me my bonus but had problems building them, the early game is slow. Some synergy, card with bonus for invertebrates, card giving extra invertebrates. Did not get my engine going until late. Used moving the Common Nighthawk a lot. In all good cards, everyone else tucking cards for me, bad play.
Chris Geggus:
Tucking hell! Never seen a tuck score like that before. Well done
Christopher. Always enjoyable as I rather like the randomness of the
bird cards and the extra scoring cards. Always good to get a combo out
early, although the start seems to catch me out every time. Best laid
plans etc. Perhaps I should be less greedy and more pragmatic. Next
time can we have the combative round scoring chart in play for that
extra bit of competition and devilment please. Thanks all and thanks
Chris H. Looking forward to the next one. I actually bought the game
anew a couple of weeks back, which is probably the first time I have
paid full whack for a game for at least a couple of years.
BTW. I am about to depart on my son's stag weekend, so I won't be doing turns until Sunday evening at the earliest.
Bill Scharf: Another fun game I’m still learning. Cowbirds don’t build nests, who knew? Congratulations to Christopher on his win, and thanks to Chris for running it.
Kevin Wilson:
Well, my first play and I wasn’t really sure where to focus. I paid too
much attention to the bonus card early and not enough attention to
later turn scoring opportunities. I also kept making some simple
errors that Chris had to correct me but the mechanics did settle in
with this play. By the end the errors were fewer. I’m not
sure yet whether I like the game or not but I can (I think) see the
appeal. I think I need to focus just a little bit more on getting
birds in play, less on how they hit my bonus and more on how they run
the engine.
Still, seems like eggs and birds were the shortfall. More
attention there, less on the bonus. Maybe the end of round scores
weren’t so critical as those were all fairly tight. Still
learning and certainly willing to give it another go to learn more.
Congrats to Christopher on the win. I’ll take Chris G’s comment
as an indication that 39 points from tucked cards is pretty good!
Thanks to the others for playing and to Chris for running the game,
fixing my mistakes and answering my questions.
