Power Grid
Notes
We
are playing on the Spain and Portugal map and a designer deck. Energy
Crisis expansion is not in play (1 in favor, 1 opposed, 3 abstain).
Power plants will be
noted in the following format: XX Fuel I→O
(FF), where XX is the power plant number, “Fuel” is the type of
fuel it takes, I is the number of inputs, O is the number of cities
it powers, and (FF) is the amount of fuel stored on it, if any.
Power plants 13, 15, and 16 will be placed on top of the deck at the
start of Step 2.

End of Game Statements
Dave Hooton (¡OLÉ!): I thought I might have had to buy up all
the coal during the last turn, but I was able to finish with the oil of
¡OLÉ!.
This game did not come easy for me.
Have you ever maneuvered yourself to
be the only buyer left in the bidding round when there's only a couple
of cards in the entire deck that would prevent that breakout plant from
dropping into the current market, and then see one of those two cards
come out? It happened to me twice this game, with plant 25 in turn 2
and plant 32 in turn 9. On to Plan C...
I'm glad this was not a FTF game,
since it took a bit of a think to (barely) checkmate Andy in turn 10.
Thanks to Chris H. for running this
game.
Chris Geggus (GEGS): Obviously I
screwed up big time in this, so was never in with a chance, but I still
struggle to coordinate the actions of buying plants and fuel and then
developing my routes. I always seem to be doing the wrong action at the
wrong time. Watching Dave actually helps my game as he does seem to
instinctively develop a rhythm in his play. A hundred more games and I
might win one. Although it would help to look at the specifics for the
nation in play and not just assume it is similar to the basic game!
Thanks again to Chris.
Bill Scharf (Rosado): Eek, the plants in this game made for a lot of horrifying choices. I chose, .... poorly. Congrats to Dave on his win, and thanks to Chris for running it.
Kevin Wilson (Industria Optimum):
Not only were the plants tough but when you make choices based on the
fact you don’t realize it’s to 15 cities not 17 until you’re already at
14 and bought the wrong plant, not much else you can do but take your
lumps. Not that it would likely have changed the outcome any.
Congarat to Dave, thanks to Chris and to the rest of you for
playing.
