7 Wonders -- Wonder Pack, Leaders, Cities, Armada
Notes
Your Armada board will be to
the right of your regular player board, and any islands you have will
be to the right of or below the Armada board. When you play a
card or
build a stage of your wonder, if you have the available resources, I
will automatically have you advance in the appropriate shipping
track. If you can get the resource from one of your neighbors,
you will have to specify that in your orders. Just for clarity
sake, I will be referring to the four shipping lanes as follows:
Red: Military, Yellow: Commercial; Blue: Civic; Green:
Exploration.

Congratulations to Chris on his victory!
End of Game Statements
Bill Scharf (Stonehenge): Thanks for running the game. And congratulations to Chris winning this one. Closer than I thought it would be!
Chris Geggus (Giza): A big surprise to get my first win at 7W. Really enjoyed the randomness and expectation as each set of cards appeared, especially the expansion cards which had me running to BGG to read up on them. Didn't choose to go the Science route, it just happened with my first few draws, but worked out well with the green ship finding some handy islands for me as well. Caligula was as useless as he was in real life. Thanks everyone for playing so swiftly and to Chris for his excellent control.
Kevin Wilson (Ephesus):
I made an early error that cost me a few points but not enough to
change the outcome. Once I brought Tomyris into play, I initially
ignored red cards since they couldn’t impact me (I thought). I
completely failed to consider that red cards also moved my red ship for
naval shields and while avoiding land conflict losses with Tomyris, I
missed out on conflict gains! The later may not have mattered much as I
could then focus plays elsewhere for VP. But it did cost me a few VP
until I tried to correct for naval shields. I could have avoided -2VP
in Age II and maybe picked up some VP in Age III had I not ignored that
need and had another naval shield or 2. Not enough to catch Geggs
(congrats by the way) but maybe to have been a bit closer or even
overtake Dave and Bill.
Having not played this game in person, another feature didn’t hit me
until this game (now 3 or 4 into my experience). There are more cards
each age than players so some cards I initially see will come around
again! Not every set I will have passed to me is new! I guess
it’s hard to predict what might still come back as any that were
attractive to me but on which I had to pass will likely be attractive
to others so never make it back to me (especially in a 5 player game)
but it could. Have to try to remember that next time.
Another shortcoming of not playing in person too is that I’m still not
always sure of the symbols and find I have to refer to the rules to
clarify. That slows me once in a while because I either have to pull a
binder I made or grab the rules PDF and check. Less of an issue in the
base game as those are generally clearer and I really read through and
studied as I prepared for first game. But the expansions add so much
that I just can’t seem to retain that I do have to refer once in awhile
to other info.
So many ways to score VP, so many choices. I’m impressed Geggs not only
won but did so convincingly with 0s in 5 categories. Shows a focused
strategy vs. a shot-gun one can pay off. Especially with a couple of
helpful science cards/ships.
I kept passing on Guilds just not thinking I could grab enough VP to
make them worthwhile. Perhaps just 1 of them may have helped. Not
enough to catch Geggs but again to catch Bill/Dave. Have to watch
a bit more closely next time.
Congrats to Geggs (yet again); thanks to the others for playing and
mucho gracias to Chris for running the game. As I continue to
catch the nuances I find I enjoy it more and more. Now I really need to
get to a table and have a go in person. Likely much different play and
I would learn faster.
Sign me up for the next.
Dave Hooton (Byzantium): At least I didn't come in last. Thanks for running it, Chris.
